What Are Chakras?
The word chakra (pronounced sha-kra), used in many eastern religions to describe the vital energy centers located throughout the body, means in Sanskrit, wheel, vortex, or disk. The chakras are the body’s primary location for perceiving vibrations that are attuned to the larger energies in the universe. These vibrations reside in our auras, an etheric matrix or bio-magnetic sheath that surrounds the physical body. The chakras are connected to the physical organs in our body as well as the different layers in the aura.
When the energy flow through these centers becomes blocked, health and vitality are compromised. Channeling Reiki into the chakras creates the opportunity to release blocked energy and assists the body in restoring internal balance. The hand positions in a traditional Reiki treatment are designed to direct energy into both the chakras and the major organs and endocrine glands to which they correspond.
Laying On of Stones
Any Reiki or other energy healing session can be enhanced by the laying on of stones. Using crystals and gemstones on the receiver’s body is a powerful method of clearing and balancing the chakras, releasing negative energy, and effecting emotional release. Start by selecting an appropriate colored stone for each chakra. Begin the healing session by placing the stone for the root chakra first, centering the stone on the chakra location, and then continue with each chakra, moving up the body to the crown (see the chart below for all chakra locations). This will give each chakra a boost of its own vibration, moving the receiver’s vibration into alignment with both the planetary and the universal grid, without altering its energies or the overall harmony of the system. The result is a freeing of life force energy into the chakras which results in a transformation of negative or dis-ease energy into health.
Proceed with your Reiki healing session as you would normally do, in the direction of head to feet. Most laying-on-of-stones healing is done on the front of the body only, but may be continued on the back. To do so, first remove the stones before the receiver turns over. When removing the stones, either to turn the receiver over, or, at the end of the session, always remove the highest one (the crown) first, leaving the lowest stone last.
See What Are Chakras for suggestions in selecting an appropriate stone for each chakra. You may go strictly by color, or use a color alternative, such as a black grounding stone for the root chakra, or rose quartz for the heart chakra. You may use one stone or more per chakra. The colored stones themselves can be in any form – cut or faceted, raw or tumbled, etc. If you are unsure which stone to select, lay your collection of stones out so that you can easily see them all; you will find your attention goes to the best choice of stone for each chakra.
Use crystals as an additional enhancement to your healing session. When using crystals and gemstones together, first place the gemstones on the chakras as described above. Then put clear crystals in the receiver’s hands, above her crown, below her feet, and in a circle around her body a few inches away. Place the points either toward Earth or sky along the vertical length of the central chakra channel. Crystals around the body should point toward the receiver. It is also a good idea to place a grounding stone such as smoky quartz between the feet to act as an anchor.
Clearing Stones for Healing
Gem and crystal jewelry and pocket stones should be cleared nightly, while stones used in healing require complete energy clearing before and after each use. Before you begin a healing session make sure your stones are cleared and programmed for your healing purpose. The clearer the energy of a healing stone, the more powerful it is. Crystals and healing gemstones need to be cleared as soon as they are purchased as well as a clearing after every healing. A cleared, ready crystal feels positive and bright, tingly and cold to the touch. A crystal that needs clearing may feel hot, heavy, or drained. Un-cleared stones may actually cause the receiver of their energy during a healing session to feel sick.
Many methods exist for clearing stones. To use Reiki, hold the stone in your hand (or place your hands over a larger stone). Use the Reiki II and III symbols, visualizing the symbols entering the stone.
For all Stones:
- DKM- Master Symbol – To open the aura
- SHK-Emotional Healing Symbol – To clear the stone
- CKR-Power Symbol – To Dedicate (While silently stating the intended purpose of the stone*)
Additional Clearing for Healing Stones:
- HSZSN-Distance Healing Symbol
- DKM- Master Symbol (While asking the stone to be self-clearing**)
*The purpose of dedicating or programming a crystal or gemstone is to focus its abilities on something you specifically need, thereby magnifying the stone’s intent through your own. Once a stone is programmed, it will hold its intent until you or someone else reprograms it.
**When a stone is self-clearing, though it still needs clearing, it will need it far less often in the future. You have in effect given the crystal a Reiki attunement.
