Energy centers in the body are recognized by indigenous people throughout the world.
They are known as the seven spirit energy centers in Native American culture, the auw centers in Hawaii,
the tree of life in the Kaballah, the dantien in the Taoist Chinese tradition, and the Chakras in many eastern
religions. The word chakra is Sanskrit for wheel, vortex, or disk. Different traditions recognize seven to ten
energy centers or stations that are attuned to larger energies in the universe.
Each of these centers correlates to major nerve ganglia branching forth from the spinal column,
and also to levels of consciousness, archetypal elements, developmental stages of life, colors, sounds,
crystals, body functions, and much more.
