The Exquisite Varieties of Jasper

Jasper stones
Jasper is one of my favorite stones. This exquisite mineral comes in more varieties than you can imagine. Personally, jasper was one of the first stones whose energy I could feel. Jasper is a powerful healer. Throughout the ages Jasper has been regarded as the stone of relaxation and contentment, promoting mothering, nurturing and caring. Jasper also represents the setting sun, the close of the day, plus the gentle turning of universal rhythms, signifying completion, wholeness, and easy endings. As a supreme nurturer, jasper sustains and supports us during times of stress, bringing us tranquility. All varieties of jasper provide protection by absorbing negative energies and grounding the body. Jasper promotes organization skills, thus offering a positive influence over individuals with a hard time finishing tasks or those with disorganized and scattered thoughts. Jasper works directly on the animal soul to heighten and intensify primal awareness. It is both a divinatory and a “karmic” stone, and may be used to control both psychic reactions and automatic responses. Use jasper to support the circulatory and digestive systems as well as the sexual organs. The mineral jasper is a form of quartz that crystallizes from hot solutions, then changed several times through reheating. This process produces a wide range of internal color and patterning that makes jasper a valuable gemstone. Unlike other microcrystalline quartzes, jasper exhibits strong permanent colors created by iron minerals. Check out all of these varieties! In addition to these generic properties listed above, the following colors and varieties of jasper manifest these additional properties: Red Jasper Red jasper, a deep brick red, focuses on solidity and grounding; as such it is an ideal stone to balance the base chakra. Red Jasper will always emphasize practical, down-to-earth solutions. It may be worn for protection, offers gently stimulation, and serves as an excellent worry bead. Brecciated Jasper Brecciated jasper is red jasper veined with hematite. It will appear with brick reds, browns, creams and whites swirled together. This stone heals mental stress by “waking us up” and promoting mental clarity. Brecciated jasper also provides emotional stability. Yellow Jasper Yellow jasper protects us during spiritual work and physical travel. It will channel positive energy, mobilizing the endocrine system to allow you to feel physically better. Use it to clear your mind. Brown Jasper Brown jasper connects directly to the earth, thus encouraging ecological awareness as it brings us stability and balance. This stone is useful for alleviating geopathic and environmental stress. Brown jasper is an aid to concentration and may be worn for centering and grounding. Place a large piece in a room to absorb negative energy. Picture Jasper Picture jasper is opaque with gold-browns. Its sandy colors evoke the desert. In addition to manifesting the properties of brown jasper, picture jasper is especially connected to the earth, bringing stability and balance. It contains a message that helps to clarify issue resolution and release depression. This stone also boosts the immune system and cleanses the kidneys. Ocean Jasper Ocean jasper is one of my favorite stones . It comes in all colors, filled with circular patterns and orbs. No two stones look alike. Ocean jasper is excellent for emotional healing, as it is very soothing. It may also be used to remove toxins. Mookaite Jasper Mookaite jasper comes from Australia. This stone is found in a variety of browns, reds, and yellow, with its patterns arising from clay and iron oxide. Mookaite jasper encourages versatility; it is physically stabilizing, fortifying the immune system, healing wounds, and purifying the blood.   Below is listed an additional sampling of the rich varieties of jaspers: Autumn: gold-browns, warm brick-reds and avocado greens Dalmatian: tawny cream -olored base with a distinct pattern of sporadic black spots Fancy: blends of mauves, lilacs, creams, greens all mixed together Kambaba: deep rich patterns of green with orbicular patterns of dark and medium green Leopardskin: mottled circles of earth tones: browns, reds, yellow, black, grey Picasso: wide streaks of black, grey, and occasional red Red Flake: red jasper containing lacy banding of white quartz Red Sesame: a delicate translucent red with clear streaks Sesame: a delicate translucent white with a swirl of mint Zebra: deep green/black with white banding
